font size

Suspected insurgents detonated a remote-controlled bomb in Thailand's violence-plagued southern border province Yala Saturday morning, injuring one soldier, Thai media reported.

The bomb went off in Yala's Muang district (provincial seat) when a unit of seven soldiers were patrolling the area around high- powered electricity posts,

A 24-year-old soldier was hurt on his left leg, according to the report on the website of the English newspaper Bangkok Post.

Security has tightened in Thailand's southernmost provinces following a string of bombings, arson and shooting attacks rocked across the area through last Sunday till Monday during the festivities for Chinese New Year. Yala was hardest hit, with more than a dozen bombings launched.

Police in the Yala municipality said they are ready to ask for arrest warrants of two men caught on surveillance cameras at a karaoke bar in the province. They were believed to have planted a bomb at My Way karaoke bar there last Sunday.
