Egyptian court puts off spy trial
font size

The Egyptian Emergency State Security Court on Saturday adjourned till Wednesday the trial of four defendants accused of spying for Israel, the official news agency MENA reported.

The defense lawyer had requested the delay to review the case, said MENA.

The four defendants included an Egyptian and three Israelis.

The Egyptian defendant Mohamed Essam el-Attar, a student at Al- Azhar University, has shown up for the first session, but the other three codefendants -- three Israeli intelligence officers -- are still at large, according to MENA.

El-Attar was arrested early this year on charge of espionage that "harms Egypt's national interests."
