EAC inspects Tanzanian military facilities
font size

An East African Community (EAC) delegation on Monday started a four-day inspection tour of Tanzania's military facilities.

The delegation, led by the community's Secretary-General Juma Mwapachu, is to inspect the military facilities that fall under the community's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in Defense.

The MOU was signed in 1998 by the three EAC founding members, i. e. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The MOU, revised in 2000, has been upgraded to a protocol.

The three countries have since been holding joint military drills and anti-terrorism exercises in accordance with the protocol.

A defense liaison was established within the EAC headquarters in Arusha of northern Tanzania and is manned by three senior military officers from the three founding member countries.
