VW to recall 790,000 U.S. vehicles over brake light defect

Volkswagen of America Inc. would recall 790,000 vehicles due to the malfunction of brake light switch, the company said on Monday.

It said the light could remain or not function if the brake light switches were improperly installed.

The vehicles recalled were: 1999-2006 model years of the Golf and GTI, 2001-2005 Jettas, 2001-2007 New Beetles and the 2004 R32.

The Germany automaker recalled 362,000 Jetta and New Beetle for the similar problems with the brake lights last year.
