China willing to conduct economic co-op with DPRK: FM spokesman

China is willing to discuss with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on possible economic cooperation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Tuesday.

As a neighbor of the DPRK, China hopes the DPRK can realize economic and social development, Qin said when asked to comment on a report that the DPRK may set up an economic zone near its border with China.

The international society should provide beneficial assistance to the DPRK, the spokesman added.

China has always adhered to two principles in developing its ties with the DPRK, namely, safeguarding peace and stability of Korean Peninsula and serving the mutual interests of China and the DPRK, he said.
