A decision to freeze the assets of 29 members of Egypt's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood was upheld on Wednesday by Cairo Criminal Court, the official MENA news agency reported.

The rule came after the court meeting for a sentence in this regard on Saturday was postponed till Wednesday, according to MENA.

Egyptian Attorney General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud ordered in late January the freezing of assets of the 29 defendants, who are accused of seeking to revive the outlawed organization's activities and disseminating its ideology among the public, especially students.

Officially banned in 1954 for its attempt to set up an Islamic government, the Muslim Brotherhood has 88 seats in the 454-member lower house of parliament after its members ran as independents in 2005 legislative elections.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has proposed constitutional amendments that include prohibition of forming any political party on a religious bases.
