Erekat urges int'l community to push Israel into peace talks
font size

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat urged the international community on Monday to compel Israel to stop building settlement and begin peace talks with the Palestinians.

"The shortest way to achieve security and stability is to begin a peace process that could end the (Israeli) occupation," Erekat said during a meeting with Norwegian envoy to the Middle East Sevien Sevie in the West Bank.

Erekat also asserted that the issues of siege, bank restrictions imposed on the Palestinian people and the whole Palestinian revenues Israel withholds should be resolved.

Concerning a forthcoming Palestinian national unity government, Erekat said that its agenda would maintain "the Arab, international and Palestinian legitimacy."
