Pakistan warns against any hot pursuit across border

Pakistan on Monday warned that any attempt of indulging in hot pursuit across the border would be effectively countered.

Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam was talking to reporters at a weekly news briefing when asked to comment on the reported statement of the Indian defense minister on the subject.

She said there should be no doubt in any one's mind that Pakistan has the capability and determination to effectively deal with such threats and defend its borders.

She said such statement can only be described as irresponsible as these militate against the efforts of the two governments to improve the environment.

To a question about similar statements emanating from across Western border with Afghanistan, the spokesperson said this is not the policy of the U.S. government.

She pointed out that some local commanders or generals might have said something of the sort but the U.S. secretary of state has firmly stated that there was no plan of this nature as it would not serve any purpose.

"Our fight against terrorism is a common cause and we have a partnership with the United States and not an adversarial relationship," she said.
