The donor countries and agencies have expressed commitment to provide the maximum possible assistance to Nepal for its socio-economic development, the National News Agency, RSS reported on Sunday.
According to the RSS, multilateral and bilateral donors have made the pledge describing the latest political developments taking place in Nepal as "positive and encouraging".
The international community has expressed its willingness to extend the helping hand to Nepal by making evaluation of the situation in which Nepal is moving towards establishment of sustainable peace by bringing the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) which was involved in an armed conflict into the political mainstream and the reality of that party's participation in the interim government through the Legislature-Parliament.
A meeting of the donors who are partners in Nepal's development which was held recently in London agreed to extend assistance in the reconstruction and rehabilitation as well as in the peace process of Nepal in an integrated manner, according to a government official who took part in the meeting.
Talking to the RSS, the official said the donors have emphasized on the need of further consolidating the democratic process and reaching its fruits to the people at the grassroots level and reflect an inclusive nature in all the state agencies.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission Jagdish Chandra Pokharel briefed on the progress regarding the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the government and the CPN-M, arms management, Interim Constitution, management of the CPN-M cantonments, three-year action plan, and the preparations for the Constituent Assembly election.
The Nepali side in the meeting made pledges for creating opportunities for investment and employment, promotion of economic activities and moving ahead by taking the people and the private sector into confidence.
A meeting of the representatives of donor agencies who participated in the London meeting is scheduled to take place here in near future for the purpose of providing cooperation for the entire peace process and contributing money in the Peace Fund.
Representatives of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations, Britain, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Japan, Germany, the European Union, Switzerland and France attended the London meeting.
China, Japan, India, Switzerland, Denmark, Canada, South Korea, Finland and the ADB had provided economic assistance to Nepal during that period, according to the RSS.
