A Chinese lawmaker has proposed a ban on using images and languages related to the state in advertising and commodity packing.
Some companies label their products with such words as "Special for the Great Hall of the People" or "Special for State Banquets", said Zhu Huiqiu, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) on the sidelines of the top legislature's annual session.
"If we do not properly supervise and restrict such promotion, these companies may counterfeit commodities bearing well-known state signs, which are surely misleading consumers," said Zhu, also board chairwoman of east China's Anhui-based Huaxin Natural Medicine Co. Ltd.
In other words, the image of the state would be tarnished if quality problems occurred, she said.
