The U.S. Mission to Nepal, through the United States Agency for International Development ( USAID)'s Office of Transition Initiatives, has provided more than 200,000 U.S. dollars in technical equipment to Nepal's Election Commission, a leading website, eKantipur.com reported on Sunday.

It is expected that the assistance to support a successful voter registration campaign and timely Constituent Assembly (CA) elections.

The donated equipment includes high-capacity servers and new data processing software to support the planned database of more than 15 million voters in a great speed.

Moreover, printers, UPS, cartridges and other essential materials will be provided to each district level election office under this assistance, it is said.

Henerietta H. Fore, Under Secretary of State for Management, who ended the two-day visit to Nepal, made the announcement at a brief ceremony at the Election Commission in Kathmandu on Saturday, where she presented a deed of equipment donation to Chief Election Commissioner Bhojraj Pokharel.

"The United States is convinced that a legitimate and inclusive election process is critical to moving the peace process forward in Nepal," Fore was quoted by the website as saying.

Stating that the Election Commission is committed to hold free, fair CA elections, Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel said the works are speeding in this regard.

The USAID has been providing assistance to enhance elections process in Nepal since 1999.
