Telephone users in China exceed 840 million

Wei Jun, the deputy Director of the Overall Planning Department of the Ministry of the Information Industry said that the number of telephone subscribers in China number more than 840 million, and will exceed 1 billion by 2010.

Wei Jun said that as part of the rapid development of China's information industry, the number of phone subscribers was increasing continually, with approximately 100 million new subscribers per year, of which 60 percent are mobile telephone users.

As outlined in the 11th Five-Year Plan, the information industry expects that there will be more than 1 billion telephone subscribers by 2010, pushing the income of the industry to 10 trillion yuan; making up 10 percent of the national GDP.
