China and Japan consult on UN reform
font size

On March 14, Cui Tiankai, the assistant to the Chinese Foreign Minister and Wu Hailong, head of the International Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke to Chikao Kawai, director of the Comprehensive Foreign Policy Bureau of Japan's Foreign Ministry about the UN reform issue.

The two countries agreed to support the UN's plan to play a greater role in safeguarding world peace and promoting development, and to increase dialogue between their two nations on this issue.

China emphasized the fact that the UN reform is comprehensive and includes many fields. Reform of the UN Security Council is in the interests of all parties. More complete and less rushed democratic consultations should be held to ensure maximum consistency.
