China hails formation of new Palestinian national unity government
font size

China welcomes the completion of forming the new national unity government in Palestine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Friday.

Qin said China appreciated the efforts made by various parties of Palestine to maintain the national unity and China hopes the new Palestinian government can stick to peaceful negotiation so as to promote the Middle East peace process.

Palestinian Prime Minister-designate Ismail Haneya announced on Thursday that a coalition government of the Palestinian Authority had been formed. It consists of representatives of the Fatah and Hamas movements, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, other parliamentary factions and independent politicians.

Under the main Palestinian law, the Palestinian Legislative Council must confirm the new Cabinet within the next few days.
