font size

Seven U.S. soldiers were killed and five others wounded in separate incidents in Iraq, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

Four U.S soldiers assigned to Multi National Division - Baghdad were killed and one was injured in a roadside bomb attack while conducting a joint patrol with Iraqi security forces in western Baghdad on Saturday, the military said in a statement.

Following the attack, insurgents opened small arms fire, wounding another soldier, the statement added.

In a separate incident, a fifth soldier was killed and three others were wounded on Friday when their unit was conducting a joint dismounted patrol with Iraqi forces south of the capital, the military said in another statement.

In addition, another soldier was killed Saturday after being shot while conducting operations in Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the military said.

Also on Saturday, the seventh soldier died in a "non-combat related incident" in Salahudin province, north of the capital, the military said in a brief statement, adding that the incident is currently under investigation.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 3,210 U.S. soldiers have been killed in the country, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
