Fake Hong Kong-dollar bills seized in Macao
font size

The Macao police have seized 232 counterfeit HK $ 1,000 bills (valued 29,000 U.S. dollars) since last Tuesday, local media reported Friday.

The Macao Post Daily quoted police sources as saying that the fake bills have been detected in casinos and banks and no arrest has so far been made.

The local law-enforcement agencies have been working with their counterparts in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to tackle the recent fake-dollar wave, the sources were cited by the newspaper.

There is so far no evidence that the bogus checks were produced in south China's Guangdong province, which is neighboring Hong Kong and Macao, it reported.
