Xi Jinping appointed as Shanghai's Communist Party Chief
font size

Xi Jinping was appointed as secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the latest decision made by CPC Central Committee.

Xi was appointed as secretary of Zhejiang CPC Provincial Committee in November 2002. He is currently a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee.

Xi, born in June 1953, joined the CPC in January 1974 and graduated from Tsinghua University.

The decision of CPC Central Committee also said Han Zheng will no longer act as acting secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

Han was appointed as acting secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee after Shanghai's former party chief Chen Liangyu was removed from his post for his involvement in the Shanghai social security fund scandal.
