Nigeria donates equipment to Liberian policeThe Nigerian government on Friday donated 12 police patrol vans, bullet proof vests, tear gas and riot shields to the Liberian national police. Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who received the logistics from Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia Eneje Onobu in Monrovia, said "Nigeria has always been a true friend to Liberia." Last December, Nigeria supplied the national police a consignment of side firearms and other police equipment in response to a request from the Liberian government to combat armed robbery in the country. The donation followed the UN Security Council's partial lifting of the arms embargo on the post-war West African nation. Onobu said the latest assistance to the Liberian police demonstrated Nigeria's contribution to the ongoing reform of the country's security sector. "This commitment and even sacrifice in blood and resources has been impelled by the belief in the common destiny of our peoples and their shared determination to work together," said the ambassador.
