James Tien appointed Hong Kong Tourism Board

The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region HKSAR) announced Tuesday the appointment of James Tien Pei-chun as chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board for three years from April 1.

Tien will succeed Selina Chow who will retire from the board after six years of dedicated service.

Announcing the appointment, Stephen Ip, secretary for Economic Development and Labor of HKSAR government, said Tien was the most suitable person for the job with his wide experience in both the commercial and public sectors.

"The tourism industry is one of Hong Kong's economic pillars. With an exemplary record of public and community service as well as extensive commercial experience, Mr Tien has the vision, leadership and capability to bring the development of tourism in Hong Kong to new heights and to enhance the position of Hong Kong as a premier tourist destination," Ip said.

Also announced Tuesday was the appointment of three new members to the board for three years from April 1. They are Chairman and Chief Executive of Wing Hang Bank Ltd, Dr Patrick Fung Yuk-bun, Chairman of Lai Sun Hotels International Ltd Mr Peter Lam Kin-ngok, and General Manager, Corporate Communication of Cathay Pacific Airways Mr Dane Cheng Ting-yat.

Tien is the chairman of the Liberal Party and has served as chairman of the Economic Services Panel of Legislative Council for nine years.
