China's Supreme Procuratorate raises compensation for wrongful detention
font size

The amount of compensation paid to wrongly detained victims of miscarriages of justice in China has been raised by 10.36 yuan to 83.66 yuan (10.86 U.S. dollars) per day.

A circular issued by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said the daily wage of urban workers was 83.66 yuan in 2006, and the criminal compensation standard would be raised accordingly.

People who are illegally detained by China's procuratorates are entitled to claim compensation.

The most well-known recipient of compensation is She Xianglin, who was wrongly jailed for 11 years for a murder that never happened. He and his family received more than 450,000 yuan in both state compensation and social security allowances from a local public security bureau in central China's Hubei Province in 2005.
