The Global Forum on Intellectual Property Rights Protection and Innovation sponsored by American International Chamber of Commerce and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) opened on March 27 in Beijing.

State Councillor Chen Zhili, addressed the opening ceremony on behalf of the Chinese government

Chen Zhili said that along with the establishment and improvement of intellectual property rights (IPR), China now has much of its own intellectual property. Since 2006, 700,000 new trademarks have been registered in China, bringing the total to 2.76 million. Utility models and designs patents make up the biggest proportion of these. Statistics from 2005 show that 28 percent of China's exports were hi-tech products and 56 percent were mechanical and electrical products.
