A meeting of the Madhesh Foundation for Peace and Development has decided to establish a Madhesh University for Peace in Nepal, Nepali national news agency RSS reported on Wednesday.
The foundation in a press release issued on Wednesday said it decided to launch classes for Peace Education from lower secondary to postgraduate level.
The office of the university will be based in Maharshi Balmiki Campus, Gaur of Rautahat district, some 100 km south of capital Kathmandu at present.
Madhesh refers to south Nepal's Terai plains, stretching from west to east, where Madhesi people with Indian origin mainly live.
Madhesi groups have launched discontinuous protests mainly in the eastern part Terai since Jan. 16, which claimed dozens of people's lives. The Madhesi groups claimed the Madhesi people's rights were not fully guaranteed in the Interim Constitution promulgated on Jan. 15 as per Nepali political parties' agreements.
