font size

Mauritania has been classified in the first position among the 10 African countries which recorded the best economic performances in 2006, according to information reaching Dakar.

This was revealed by an economic review entitled "developments in the socioeconomic situation in Africa," a document published by the UN Economic Commission for Africa which concludes that Mauritania was the best performing country in Africa in 2006, Mauritanian News Agency reported on Saturday.

This document highlights several factors which have contributed to this scenario including economic stability, appreciation of the value of the national currency, ouguiya as well as investments in the new sectors of hydrocarbons, mineral exploration, tourism and fishing.

The nine other countries which recorded the best economic results in 2006 are Angola, Mozambique, Sudan, Ethiopia, Libya, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Malawi.
