Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and visiting Spanish first deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega agreed on Thursday to facilitate China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership.

In their official talks, Tang said China regards Spain as an important cooperation partner in the European Union (EU).

The two countries agreed to host the "Year of Spain" in China and a Chinese art festival in Spain this year, which help to enhance understanding and friendship between the two peoples, Tang said.

"China is ready to join hands with Spain to maintain high-level exchanges, expand trade cooperation, increase cultural exchanges and enhance coordination in international affairs," he said.

Calling Spain-China ties at an important stage for development, Fernandez de la Vega said her country is willing to boost bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

She reiterated Spain's adherence to the one-China policy, adding her country will further cement cooperation with China in trade and cultural areas, and cooperate closely in international organizations including the United Nations.

Fernandez de la Vega told Tang Spain is ready to play greater role in the EU, and continue to promote EU-China relations.

The two sides exchanged notes concerning the opening of Spanish Consulate General in Guangzhou and the enlargement of its Shanghai Consulate General.

They two countries also signed MOU to boost bilateral investment cooperation.
