Japan to try to broaden common strategic interests with China: Abe

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Thursday that his country will make efforts to broaden common strategic interests with China.

Abe made the remarks here during a meeting with U.S. former ambassador to Japan Howard Baker later in the day. He said Japan will go on to conduct specific cooperation with China in a wide range of fields and broaden bilateral common strategic interests.

On the Korean peninsula nuclear issue, Abe and Baker agreed that it is important for Japan and the United States to further strengthen cooperation through the six-party talks.

They also pledged to continue to work together on the issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's past abduction of Japanese nationals.
