Vivian Reding, a media commissioner and head of the European Union's Information Society, will arrive in Seoul on Sunday for a three-day visit for talks on ways to increase cooperation between South Korea and the EU in information technology and science.
Reding will hold talks with South Korea's Science and Technology Minister Kim Woo-sik, as well as representatives of European and Korean industry, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said on Sunday.
The visit will last until Tuesday, with the commissioner also holding meetings with Kim Myung-gon, Seoul's minister for culture and tourism, and Minister of Information and Communication Roh Jun- hyong, it added.
In a news release to local media, EU's permanent delegation to Seoul said the visit "is to learn through direct contact how Korea has become a world leader in information technology and in particular, high speed Internet and broadband."
The commissioner would seek to explore "various possibilities for developing EU-Korea cooperation in the field of IT and other sectors," the news release said.
The European commissioner is also scheduled to visit the Advanced Research Institute of Samsung, South Korea's largest conglomerate, and Hanarotelecom Inc., a leading communication and Internet service provider.
