New Yemeni gov't sworn in

A new Yemeni government headed by Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Mugur was sworn in before President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the capital city of Sanaa on Saturday.

The swearing-in ceremony came following Thursday's formation of a new cabinet, in which key ministers of interior, defense, foreign affairs and oil stayed put in their jobs.

After the new cabinet members took the oath, President Ali Abdullah Saleh urged them to wage a war against corruption.

"You must wage a robust war against corruption and press ahead with economic reform," Saleh said.

Saleh, re-elected as president in last September, appointed Mugur, who has sound economic expertise, as the new prime minister on March 31.

It is widely believed that his appointment is aimed at winning confidence from the international donors who have pledged billions of dollars to Yemen, one of the world's poorest countries.
