Chinese top advisor Jia Qinglin met in Beijing Monday with visiting Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

"We are glad to see that the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam has been further developed recently," said Jia, who is chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body.

He said the frequent exchanges of high-level visits last year had enhanced political trust and given a strong impetus to bilateral friendly relations and cooperation.

Jia also expressed his hope that both sides could strengthen mutual trust, expand friendly exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation for common development.

"We are willing to promote mutual understanding between people of the two countries so as to push forward bilateral ties in an all-round way," Jia said.

Nguyen said Vietnam will continue to pursue one-China policy and oppose Taiwan secessionist activities.

He said he believe the bilateral relations will have a bright future through joint efforts of both sides.

Nguyen is on an official good-will visit to China from April 8 to 15 as guest of China's top legislator Wu Bangguo.
