A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official has gone on trial in central China, accused of taking bribes worth more than 14 million yuan and failing to account for his finances.
Li Dalun, Party secretary of Chenzhou city, Hunan Province, is alleged to have taken bribes in exchange for promotions, contracts and mining permits from February 1999 to May 2006.
Changsha Intermediate People's Court heard that money and other illegal gifts accepted by Li and his family members were valued at more than 14 million yuan.
Meanwhile, Li had another 17.7 million yuan that he had failed to account for, the court heard.
Li's wife, Chen Lihua, a retired Chenzhou labor and social security bureau official, is also on trial on corruption charges.
Zeng Jinchun, former vice secretary of Chenzhou city, is also charged with taking bribes valued at 30 million yuan and failing to account for 50 million yuan in cash, according to a report from the provincial CPC commission for discipline inspection.
In an alleged confession, Li is said to have incriminated Zeng, who was cleared of wrongdoing in three investigations last year.
