China hopes Italy to resolve police-Chinese clash fairly
font size

China on Friday called on Italy to seek a fair resolution to the clash between police and overseas Chinese in Milan.

"China has made representations to the Italian side," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement.

A Chinese woman was detained on Thursday after a dispute with the Milan police over parking, Qin said.

The detention aroused the protests of local Chinese, which led to a clash between local police and Chinese, the statement said.

More than 10 overseas Chinese were slightly injured, five of whom were discharged from hospital after treatment.

"We hoped the Italian side will resolve the situation in a spirit of fairness and equity, give serious considerations to the reasonable demands of the overseas Chinese and protect their legitimate rights," the spokesman said.

So far the situation has basically quieted down, Qin said.
