Common migration policy proposed in European Union
font size

European Commission President Manuel Durao Barroso proposed Friday that the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) implement a common migration policy.

"It is ridiculous that the EU, where free circulation of people exists, has 27 migration policies," said Barroso in Portugal's parliament in Lisbon.

Migration policies implemented unilaterally in an EU country have negative consequences on other member states, he added.

It is necessary for EU countries to accept a common migration policy, since this does not interfere with the jurisdiction of each country, said Barroso.
