Election campaign clashes picked up at the eve of gubernatorial elections which are to be held in Nigeria on Saturday.
At least 13 supporters of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Congress (AC) have lost their lives in renewed bloody clashes in different parts of Lagos on Thursday and Friday night.
The latest of the clash, according to Vanguard's Saturday's report, occurred Friday at Surulere area of Lagos, following an argument over alleged use of security agents to molest members of one of the political parties.
The argument said the clash has been between the members of the PDP and AC, later degenerated into a fight.
Some members of one of the parties, upon information, stormed the scene and beat their opponent to death.
When news of the death of the victim said to be a PDP supporter reached his colleagues, a free-for-all fight broke with dangerous weapons including guns being used.
Three other persons lost their lives in the clash.
A similar incident which also claimed four lives occurred Thursday night at Oshodi area in Lagos state between the supporters of the PDP and the AC.
The Ogba area of Lagos witnessed same crisis which resulted in the death of three people on Thursday night.
On Alaba International market, located along the Lagos-Badagry expressway, there was reportedly sporadic shootings shortly before the arrival of the PDP campaign team in the area.
There were also reported murder cases before the election.
In southern Nigeria's Bayelsa State, barely 48 hours after a House of Assembly candidate was killed on the streets in Yenagoa, and hours to the governorship and House of Assembly elections, three local politicians including an election candidate and a woman leader were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
In northern Nigeria's Kano, the spokesman of the state police command Alhaji Baba Muhammad confirmed that two unidentified gunmen on Friday invaded a mosque in Kano, killing an imam, Ustaz Ja'afar Adam, and two others.
The incident was reported to have some links with the local election.
