Two units of China-built gas turbine power station go into operation

Two units of China-built gas turbine power station, Omotosho Power Plant, went into operation in the Nigerian southwest state of Ondo on Tuesday.

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo attended the official commissioning ceremony and cut the ribbon for the operation of the two units.

Obasanjo said the operation of the station represents China's efforts to help Nigeria improve its infrastructural facilities.

He thanked Chinese contractor China National Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Corporation (CMEC) for building the gas station in the remote region.

He said that Nigeria and China will continue and enhance their cooperation in power generation.

Cao Yuejun, senior manager and assistant to president of the CMEC, said the gas power station has first-class equipment, advanced technology, automation and control system.

He said the CMEC will guarantee the quality of the gas power station for the benefits of the Nigerian people, adding that it is ready to make efforts to promote power generation for the Nigerian people and industry.

Started in March 2005, the gas power station with a total capacity of 335 mw has eight gas turbine units. Now the building of seven units has been completed and the eighth one is under construction.

Zhang Zhenyu, general manager of the worksite of the Omotosho gas power station, said the two units will produce 84,000 kw annually and the rest six units are expected to generate electricity around the end of this year.
