Milan's Mayor meets Chinese Consul General over clashMilan's Mayor Letizia Moratti and the Chinese Consul General Zhang Limin met Tuesday to try to find solutions to the problems that led to the clash between Italian police and Chinese merchants in Milan. Mayor Letizia Moratti said the municipal government will communicate with all parties involved in the clash and map out within three weeks feasible rules and regulations to ensure that people of both Italian and Chinese origin will enjoy their legitimate rights as long as they abide by Italian laws. Zhang said the municipal government of Milan is supposed to take the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese Italians into consideration before it promulgates and implements certain regulations. The Milan government is also willing to talk to people of Chinese origin living in Milan on some municipal rules, Zhang added. On April 12, a Chinese woman driver squabbled with police when she was fined for violating road regulations. Hundreds of Chinese merchants and residents then took to the street in protest. The protestors clashed with police, leaving some people injured. Source: Xinhua |
