China's position on UN reform unchanged, says Chinese FM spokesman

China's position on UN reform remains unchanged, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told a routine press conference on Thursday.

Liu made the remarks when asked whether there had been a change of views on UN reform after Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful visit to Japan last week.

"We support necessary and reasonable reform of the UN Security Council," Liu said, stressing that there are still sharp differences on the reform among parties who should consult patiently with each other.

"We hope member states can reach an agreement through consultation and that a solution accepted by the majority of countries can be found", Liu said.

He reiterated that China opposes any move to force a vote on the reform plan while major differences remain.
