U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday on reports of a sell-off in the Asia market, with the Dow closing with another record high the second day.
In the closing trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 5.20, or 0.04 percent, to 12,809.04. The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 1.73, or 0.12 percent, to 1,470.77 and the tech-laced Nasdaq composite index went down 5.15, or 0.21 percent, to 2,505. 35.
The Asia stock market fell sharply Thursday. The benchmark Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 3,449.02 points, down 163.38 points from the previous close. Hong Kong stock dropped 477.38 points, or 2.3 percent, to close at 20,299.71.
Meanwhile, the number of people applying for state unemployment benefits in the United States fell by 4,000 to 339,000 in the week ending April 14, the Labor Department said Thursday.
