The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has assured Uganda of operations against Ugandan rebel groups including the Allied Democratic Force (ADF) and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a statement said here on late Saturday.
A communique announced by the army chiefs of the two countries mapped out eight measures to promote further the military cooperation against the Ugandan rebel groups currently based in the DRC.
The agreement was reached after a two-day meeting ended on Saturday here between the Chief of Defense Force of Uganda People's Defense Force, General Aronda Nyakairima, and the DRC government troops FARDC's Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Kisempia Sungilanga Lombe.
The DRC agreed that the FARDC will take precautionary measures on the ADF and deploy troops to the areas where the ADF is located.
The ADF rebels have committed numerous crimes, like the massacre of 80 students of Kichwamba Technical Institute in 1997, the massacre of about 60 civilians in Ndugute in Bundibugyo and planting bombs in Kampala that killed several people in 1999 and 2000.
The DRC noted the election process has been successfully completed in the country, providing favorable conditions to mobilize necessary resources to counter the negative forces within the country.
The two parties also agreed on a mechanism of information exchange, regular meeting and verification of the LRA's movement to designated assembly area of Ri Kwangba.
The LRA rebels are currently engaged in peace talks under the mediation of southern Sudan authority with the Ugandan government since last July.
The LRA's two-decade-old insurgency has left tens of thousands of people killed and over 1.4 million others displaced in northern Uganda.
