font size

One civilian was hurt by an improvised bomb in the southern Philippine province of Cotabato on Mindanao on early Sunday, local TV reported.

The explosion occurred 6:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Lagumbihan village in Midsayap town, GMA TV quoted a military report as saying. The identity of the victim was not immediately known.

The report said the improvised explosive device was made of 81- mm mortar. Intelligence and explosive experts from the Philippine Army are in the area conducting investigation.

No armed group has claimed responsibility for the explosion in Cotabato. But the blast came two days after the United States and the Australia issued warnings to their citizens against travelling to southern Philippines, citing a possible terrorist attack in Central Mindanao.
