Three U.S. soldiers were killed and five others wounded in the Iraqi capital on Saturday, bringing the number of U.S. soldiers killed in the day to six, the U.S. military said on Monday.
One soldier was killed and two others wounded during an overnight indirect fire attack against a military base in southwest of Baghdad, the U.S. military said in a statement.
The indirect fire attack refers to mortar or rocket attacks in the U.S. military statement.
A second soldier was killed in the day and three others wounded when insurgents attack their vehicle with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades while conducting combat security patrol in western the capital, another statement said.
A third soldier died due to a "non-battled cause" in Baghdad, a statement said without specifying the cause of his death.
In earlier statements, the military announced the killing of three more soldiers and six others wounded on Saturday in the Iraqi capital.
A fourth soldier was killed and three others wounded when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb followed by small arms fire while conducting combat patrol in southwestern Baghdad.
Another soldier was killed and one more injured when insurgents attacked their vehicle with small arms fire while conducting combat security patrol in eastern the capital, the military said.
A sixth soldier was killed and two others wounded in the day by a roadside bomb while conducting a foot patrol in an area located some 24 km southwest of Baghdad, it said.
The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin and released by the U.S. Department of Defense, the statements said.
About 3,325 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
