Chinese defense chief and former German President discuss information security
font size

Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan on Tuesday met with former German President Roman Herzog to discuss information security issues.

Herzog, who served as German president from 1994 to 1999, was here to attend an international seminar on information security.

Cao said the seminar was a timely event because information security is a key issue in today's information society.

"The Chinese government is keenly aware of the importance of information security issues," Cao told Herzog Tuesday morning.

The seminar was hosted by the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) and Michael Eric Bosman Hotung Foundation.

Cao said China would intensify its efforts to work with the international community to build a stronger global information security system.

Herzog said information security is a global issue and called on countries to work together.
