China-Uganda friendship emphasized in meeting of ruling party officials

China and Uganda enjoy a long-standing friendship and are ready to cooperate broadly, senior officials of the ruling parties of the two countries emphasized as they met in Beijing Tuesday afternoon.

Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Secretary General Amama Mbabazi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) of Uganda in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Tuesday afternoon.

Mbabazi is heading an NRM delegation to China from April 21 to 29.

Mbabazi, also minister of security, met with officials of the Chinese government and Communist Party during his stay in Beijing.

The two sides exchanged experience on governance and building up a ruling party, which Mbabazi said is crucial for Uganda to sustain rapid economic growth.

Uganda has been one of the fastest growing economies in Africa in recent years. Its efforts to restructure the economy and develop government capability have won commendations from international organizations such as the World Bank.

During the meeting with Luo, Mbabazi said he hoped China would increase investment in Uganda in areas such as resources development, industry and infrastructure.

Luo said China is ready to boost bilateral cooperation to bring benefits to the people of both countries.

Trade volume between China and Uganda has been growing at a double-digit rate over the past few years.

Since China and Uganda established diplomatic links in 1962, the two countries have maintained friendly relations. Mbabazi has visited China several times. During his current trip to China, he will visit the coastal economic hub Shanghai and southern boom town Shenzhen, as well as Beijing. He will visit hi-tech companies,fish farms and small-sized enterprises.
