Indonesia allocates 9 trillion rupiah to rebuild railways
font size

The Indonesian government is preparing a budget of 9 trillion rupiah (about 991 million U.S. dollars) to rebuild railways, Transportation Minister Hatta Rajasa said Thursday.

The fund will be used to repair old railway tracks and railway bridge, he was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying during a visit to Yogyakarta.

Most of wooden rails were no longer in good condition as they were set up in the Dutch colonialism, he said.

Worn-out railway tracks were the main cause of derailment and other related accidents, Hatta said.
