China's new Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has confirmed he will travel to Egypt's Sharm-El Sheikh to attend two international meetings on Iraq.

Yang will attend a meeting under the International Compact with Iraq (ICI) and a conference of the Foreign Ministers of Iraq's Expanded Neighbors from May 3 to 4, according to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

This will be Yang's first overseas mission since he was named foreign minister on Friday.

Yang was invited by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih, UN chief's ICI Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiar Al-Zibari and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit.
