Speaker of Malaysian parliament lower house Ramli Ngah Talib said in Beijing Saturday that China has won international respect for its peaceful development policy and the image of being a responsible member of the international community.

Ramli, speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, said China's development is peaceful development, in which China insists on peaceful ways to resolve international and regional conflicts and differences. That is the reason why China has won understanding and respect from the world.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Wu Bangguo, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

Ramli said the growth of China's military strength, including its navy, is in accordance with its economic expansion and out of security need. It is no threat to the region and to the world at large.

He said Malaysia understands well China's peaceful development policy, adding that although Malaysia has some trade exchanges with Taiwan, it will firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

Ramli said Malaysia and China share a long history of relations, which can be traced back to the period of a famous ancient Chinese navigator Zheng He's traveling to the West, some 600 years ago.

He said Malaysia is ready to deepen the cooperation with China in such areas like trade, tourism and investment.

Ramli arrived in Beijing Friday for a five-day visit at the invitation of Wu Bangguo. The visit is his first to China.
