10 Taliban militants killed in S. Afghanistan
font size

The U.S.-led coalition forces killed 10 Taliban insurgents in Helmand province early Saturday morning, a coalition statement said.

A coalition convoy was ambushed by militants in Gereshk district in the province, the statement said.

Coalition forces fought back from the ground and called in close air support, which destroyed two buildings hiding militants, it added.

There were no coalition casualties in the conflict, according to the statement.

Helmand has been a hotbed of Taliban militants, who have been clashing with Afghan and foreign troops frequently.

Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 900 people, mostly Taliban rebels, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
