Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai still examples for college students at heart

Those college students taking their service to people as the best way to embody their value of life"make up 57.8 percent of the total student body in the the Chinese capital, whereas only 10.6 percent of them deem the acquirement of assets embodies their life value". Recently, a "study report on the current situation with the students' views of socialist honors and disgraces at elite Beijing university has been published by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. The report suggersts a general trend with college students in Beijing is active and upbeat on the whole.

The study shows college students have a strong sense of collectiveness and cooperative awareness; 52.6 percent of the students regard other fellow students they know as having a pretty strong or very strong collective spirit and cooperative awareness; 87.8 percent students agree that they "should be the first to take into account the interest of the state and the collectiveness" at any time; 69.4 percent of the students interviewed think the patriotic zeal of the students they know is "pretty strong" or "very strong"; 80.7 percent of the college students are in a firm opposition to the self-centered notion, 90 percent of the college students think it is of vital importance to attend the volunteers' activitties.

This study shows that, Zhou Enlai and Mao Zedong, the late top Chinese leaders with an impact on generations of the Chinese youth are still the fine examples in the eyes of the contemporary colleges and college students. Their avarage of wins is 40.39 percent and 21.61 percent respectively. Moreover, the models in their eyes also have strong era hallmarks, such as Bill Gates's rate ranking the third with 16.7 percent.

Furthermore, the study shows 8.7 percent of the college students take "being honest and trustworthy"as the most worthy moral features to be commended and studied. But 47.7 percent college students feel that many of them still do not have a"very strong" or "pretty strong", sense of "trustworthy consciousness". Besides, only 31.8 percent of the students think that the "hard work"spirit of the student body is very or relatively strong and still 44.7 percent implied that the psychological quality of these students as just "so and so" and the approximately 20 percent of the college students consider their psychological quality as "pretty weak" or " rather weak".

The targets of this study cover students in 19 institutions of higher learning in Beijing including prestigious Beijing University, Tsinghua University and Renmin (People's) University of China. It has distributed 1,900 questionnaires, out of which 1,844 qualified questionnaires are retrieved.
