Numbers of Macao's vehicles, traffic accidents see rise

The number of licensed vehicles in Macao stood at 166,918 at the end of March, seeing a year-on-year rise of 7 percent, according to official statistics issued here Tuesday.

Figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service showed that some 52 percent of the licensed vehicles are motorcycles and 41 percent light private cars.

The number of traffic accidents in the first quarter reached 3, 269, seeing a year-on-year increase of 6 percent, the figures showed.

Some 1,155 casualties involving the traffic cases, including four fatalities, were registered in the quarter, according to the statistics.

The region has a population of 502,000.
