Senior Chinese official calls for strengthened Sino-Colombian relationsA senior Chinese official said Monday that to further strengthen Sino-Colombian ties is conducive to the solidarity and self-reliance of developing countries. Wang Zhongyu, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met here with Camilo Sanchez, vice president of the Colombian Senate and Jorge Homero, vice president of the Chamber of Representatives. Wang said strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation conforms to the common interests of people of the two nations and is conducive to solidarity and self-reliance of the developing countries, as well as in maintaining world peace and promoting common development. He said China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Colombia, expressing appreciation for Colombia's support on the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and human rights. The CPPCC is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Colombian Senate and Chamber of Representatives and contribute to promoting China-Colombia friendly relations, Wang added. Sanchez and Homero said that Colombia and China respect and support each other and share common views on many international issues, adding that Colombia will stick to the "one-China" policy. The Colombian Congress will further enhance exchanges with the CPPCC and deepen bilateral cooperation, they said.
