Deported Afghan deportees stage protest

More than 100 Afghan refugees who have been deported by Iran staged a protest demonstration in front of the Iranian embassy here Tuesday calling on the governments of the two countries to resolve their problems.

The protestors also called on the Afghan government to provide job opportunities to them and urged Iran to respect human rights with regard to refugees.

More than one million Afghan refugees have been living in Iran, according to local reports.

Iran called on the Afghans living there illegally and asked them to leave the country, otherwise they will face expulsion. While more than 900,000 others are registered and legal refugees living in the Islamic republic.

Over 3.7 million Afghan refugees have returned home since the collapse of Taliban regime in late 2001 with majority of them from Pakistan and Iran.
