Senior Chinese official Wu Guanzheng met Wednesday with Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Mohamed Bolkiah on promotion of bilateral cooperation.
Wu, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), spoke highly of the steady development of China-Brunei relations, expressing his appreciation over Brunei's efforts to push forward the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.
Wu, who flew here Tuesday for a stopover after a visit to Spain and three Latin American countries, briefed the host on China's current socio-economic situation, saying that China's rapid development has brought about opportunities for the two countries to deepen cooperation of mutual benefit in various fields.
He said the Chinese side is willing to work together with the Brunei side and to continuously strengthen the friendly cooperation in fields such as trade and energy, so as to achieve the goal of increasing trade volume between the two countries to 1 billion U.S. dollars by 2010.
Mohamed, also a prince of Brunei, recalled the development history of bilateral relations, saying that with a long history of friendship between Brunei and China, bilateral cooperation is of a strong foundation and vast potential.
He said that Brunei knows well the importance of the one-China policy to the Brunei-China relations, and will stick to this policy steadfastly.
The prince also said that on the basis of the one-China policy, the Brunei side will continue to push forward the bilateral ties and make efforts to strengthen the China-ASEAN relations.
Before his arrival here, Wu visited Spain, Cuba, Colombia and Chile.
